Jessy Wilson is an American singer-songwriter, originally from Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School, Wilson began singing backup vocals for Alicia Keys on tours and album recordings. In 2013, Wilson relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where she formed the rock duo Muddy Magnolias with singer Kallie North. Mentored by John Legend, the duo performed at the CMA Music Festival in 2014, earning critical praise from the magazine Rolling Stone, which compared her vocals to Aretha Franklin. Under Third Generation Records, the duo released the studio album Broken People (2016) before North’s departure in 2017 led to the group’s dissolution. In 2019, Wilson launched a solo career with the debut single “Love & Sophistication”, produced by Patrick Carney of the band The Black Keys. The track was featured on her debut solo studio album, Phase, released on May 3, 2019, through Thirty Tigers Records.
