Carolyn Dawn Johnson, born April 30, 1971, in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, is a Canadian country music singer and songwriter. Johnson moved to Nashville in the late 1990s and established herself as a songwriter, co-writing Chely Wright's 1999 Number 1 single “Single White Female” and Jo Dee Messina's “Downtime”, earning the MusicRow Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year award in 2000. Signed to Arista Nashville, Johnson released her debut studio album Room with a View in 2001, which received Gold certification in Canada and featured the hit singles “Georgia”, “Complicated”, which reached number 5 on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, and “I Don't Want You to Go”. Johnson released her second studio album, Dress Rehearsal, in 2004, which debuted at number 9 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and produced the Top 15 country singles “Simple Life” and “Die of a Broken Heart”. Johnson subsequently released the studio albums Love & Negotiation in 2006 and Love Rules in 2010. Throughout her career, Johnson has won five Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Female Artist of the Year awards, a Juno Award, and an Academy of Country Music Award.
