Sexwitch was an English krautrock and psychedelic folk group from Brighton, formed in 2015. The project was a collaboration between the songwriter Natasha Khan (Bat for Lashes) and the members of the rock band Toy. The ensemble originated from a 2013 session where they covered Amir Rassaei’s “Aroos Khanom”, released as the single “The Bride”. The group issued its self-titled debut studio album, Sexwitch, on 25 September 2015. Produced by Dan Carey, the record consists of six covers of 1970s folk and psychedelic songs from Iran, Morocco, Thailand, and the United States. Ahead of the release, the band issued the single “Helelyos” in August 2015. The formation performed its debut live set at the Green Man festival that same year. The Guardian characterized the music as “hypnotic, groove-based tracks” featuring “shrieking crescendos”.
