'Earth Songs' is out now on Ubuntu Music
Jon Lloyd is a UK-based saxophonist. He has a long history of playing a wide range of jazz-related music, as well as time spent composing music for strings, as well as playing in African bands and pop groups when he was younger! His saxophone sound on tenor and soprano saxophones is distinctive – his tone is smooth yet commands attention.
His big focus as an artist is to write, play and record music which communicates with people. His music is instrumental music. Although he writes for jazz instruments, his music is not strictly jazz. He would describe it as European contemporary jazz, because it includes folk and world music, and classical influences as well as American jazz. It is a true fusion of styles, but what it does really effectively is communicate on an emotional level with people. Jazz for people who don’t like jazz!
His two big projects in 2024 are Naissance and Jon Lloyd Quartet.
Naissance is a sensitive duet between Jon and virtuoso pianist John Law. They have played music together for decades, and you can hear this level of deep interaction in their music. This duo’s music crosses so many musical boundaries…
Jon Lloyd Quartet have released “Earth Songs” on Ubuntu Music this year, and are a live and kicking touring band. Jon is on tenor and soprano sax. Brilliant pianist John Law is also there, alongside great bassist Nick Pini and young superstar drummer Alex Goodyear. Jon writes all the tunes, which are interpreted by this amazing band and brought to life on stage. Audience reactions to this quartet are always super-positive!
Earth Songs is the first release by Jon Lloyd Quartet. Keep listening as more music will follow!
