Cam, whose full name is Camaron Marvel Ochs, is an American singer, songwriter and producer born on November 19, 1984 in Huntington Beach, California. A graduate of the University of California at Davis, where she studied psychology, she began her musical career in folk music under the name Camaron Ochs, releasing a debut independent album, Heartforward, in 2010. She then adopted the stage name Cam and moved into country music, co-writing the Maggie Rose-recorded "Fall Madly in Love with You" and then "Maybe You're Right" for Miley Cyrus. In 2015, Cam had a major breakthrough with the single "Burning House" (#29 on the Billboard Hot 100), from her EP Welcome to Cam Country and the critically acclaimed album Untamed, certified platinum in the United States. The album, released by Arista Nashville, peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart (#12 on the Billboard 200), and features Cam's modern pop approach to country, expressive vocal style and introspective lyrics. In 2018, she signed with RCA Records and released the album The Otherside (#19 on the country charts in 2020), produced with collaborators including Jack Antonoff, Jeff Bhasker, Tyler Johnson, Sam Smith, Harry Styles and Avicii (who co-produced the title track before her death). The album illustrates a shift towards more eclectic pop, while retaining country roots. In 2024, Cam took part in the production of Beyoncé's country album, Cowboy Carter, which earned her a Grammy Award for her writing and production work. Buoyed by this distinction, she set about recording All Things Light (2025), an album between folk and country, combining intimate, introspective tracks with sonic experimentation.
