Benjamin Shaw is a Melbourne-based musician and visual artist of English-Canadian background, working across indie, folk, alternative, experimental and lo-fi styles. He has long been a core figure on the Audio Antihero roster, which released his debut EP I Got the Pox, the Pox is What I Got in 2009. The record earned airplay on BBC 6 Music and warm notices from outlets including The Skinny, Clash and The Line of Best Fit. His first full-length, There’s Always Hope, There’s Always Cabernet (2011), drew praise from Drowned in Sound and MusicOMH, and its single “Somewhere Over the M6” received repeat plays on the BBC. He has toured the UK, Europe and Australia, and in 2012 joined Fighting Kites on the charity release “This Christmas (I Just Want to be Left Alone)”, directing its video. The instrumental album Summer in the Box Room followed in 2013, then Goodbye, Cagoule World in 2014. Shaw also records as Guppy and Megadead, the latter name carrying a steady stream of self-released work from 2018 onward, including 31 Songs About Murder and Authentic Country Music in 2021. Beyond his own records, he has contributed artwork, mastering and remixes for many label-mates. In 2025 he announced a trilogy of ambient releases under his own name and remixed Leilani Patao and Jeff Parker.
