Naked City were an American avant-garde and experimental ensemble from New York City active between 1988 and 1993. Led by saxophonist and composer John Zorn, the group featured guitarist Bill Frisell, bassist Fred Frith, keyboardist Wayne Horvitz, drummer Joey Baron, and vocalist Yamatsuka Eye. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style that incorporated elements of jazz, grindcore, and surf rock. Their recording career began with the eponymous studio album Naked City (1990), released through Nonesuch Records. Their discography includes the studio recordings Torture Garden (1990), Grand Guignol (1992), and Leng Tch'e (1992), the latter consisting of a single thirty-minute composition. The ensemble released the studio recordings Radio (1993) and Absinthe (1993) before disbanding. They resumed activity in 2003 for performances in Amsterdam and Warsaw.
