2015, refined pop is back: EREVAN TUSK has majestically returned to the forefront of the French music scene with a set of sharp new tracks. The springtime folk melodies that defined the first album (Fortify Your Innocence 2012) have given way to explore new otherworldly lands, hidden between dreams and nightmares. A mystical ambivalence defines the band and the two singers, a deep paradox, which subtly allows temptation and subversion to weave its web.
With the upcoming release of their new E.P «Growing», Jim, Pacôme, Pierre, Nicolas and Alex have engaged in a voluntary shift from their last album: “On the new E.P we started to write differently and together as a group whereas on the previous album Pacôme and Jim were the sole composers”. A small revolution in the eyes of the band: Their new democratic and clever approach, has led to a new unprecedented artistic direction. Cutting and ambiguous, their sharp featured, rich songwriting is blood-red and plump; the incredible music video which will accompany their first track “Growing”, released in February, is a blood stained flag that flaps mightily in the winds of their revolted minds.
Far from a Stalinist approach, the band’s goal is to “explore harrowing tales as well as more pastoral realms”: to tickle nerves with crushed glass, to tread forward and blindly on a thin cable swinging from light to darkness… In this parallel world of dreams and nightmares belonging to Erevan Tusk, the texts spun together by half French, half Swedish singer Jim travel to these crossroads, creating dark tracks tinged with Emily Dickinson’s poetry, tracks where literature, beauty and poetry prevail.
To enhance the ethereal play between reality, dreams and nightmares the E.P also contains four excellent remixes by the upper crust of the current music scene (SAINT MICHEL, LE VASCO, TOMMY JACOB, and NIGHTWORKS member of METRONOMY): These remixes sketch, along with the original tracks, an enchanted map, set between captivating warmth and tension, where melancholy rules over radiance. Adventurous Tom Thumbs In their kingdom, a kingdom built on high-caliber and literate French Pop, which they constantly redefine and polish to a shine, EREVAN TUSK combines The Beach Boys’ radiant legacy with Talk Talk’s grey matter and Metronomy’s precision.
Twisted narration, baffling trails, trails to the stars: amphibolic, practitioner of all that is abstract and impalpable, EREVAN TUSK has analyzed and magnified the spectrum of its new continent. From Earth to Moon, a fertile new world, free from gravity’s pull, close to the stars, and yet intimidating and disturbing, Growing, so simple and yet so intricate, aims for universality between, the mind, the body and beyond. Before they trace the new map leading to their second album, their E.P announces the creation of a new dystopian world, which orbits within your dreams and nightmares.
