Frédéric Hanak and Jean-Baptiste Hanak formed the French electronic music group dDamage in 2000. Their debut album, Reverbreak This Beat Down (2000), was issued by Grafted and fused hip-hop grooves with ambient electronics. In 2001, they followed with Harsh Reality of Daily Life on Alice in Wonder, leaning toward an industrial sound. The 2003 EP Trop singe, recorded with rap collective TTC, raised their profile, and in 2004 they released the album Radio Ape and Pressure EP on Planet Mu. Following their 2006 EP Ink 808, they toured the United States and Canada, and released Shimmy Shimmy Blade (2006). Subsequent albums—Aeroplanes (2010), Brother in Death (2011), Shinbô (2013), and Brother vs. Brother (2019)—featured collaborations with MF DOOM, Jon Spencer, Bomb the Bass, and Japanese artists. The group ceased activity in September 2018 following the death of Frédéric Hanak at age 46. The duo's final album, Brother vs. Brother, was released posthumously in 2019 through Bruit Blanc / Schubert Publishing.
