Los Serenos Sefarad, a Judaeo-Spanish-language Jewish hip hop group from Seattle, Washington, was formed in January 2014 by Moroccan-born Sephardic Rabbi Simon Benzaquen and Mexican-born rapper/guitarist Alejandro "Alex" Hernandez. The group's initial breakthrough came with their collaboration on the rap version of the Ladino Hanukkah song "Ocho Kandelikas" in 2013, followed by performances at Seward Park's SPARK Jewish Music Festival. Their first music video, "La Vida Do Por El Raki" (2015), was released in November 2015. Los Serenos Sefarad's debut album, Los Bilbilikos, was released in 2017, which included notable songs such as "La Serena" and "Adyjo Keryda Espanya", the latter addressing the expulsion of Jews during the Spanish Inquisition.
