Matt Stevens, born August 2, 1975 in Rushden, Northamptonshire, England, is an English rock guitarist and composer. He began playing guitar as a teenager, inspired by Guns N' Roses and Iron Maiden, and moved to London in the early 2000s to perform solo loops on acoustic guitar. He released his debut instrumental album Echo (2008), followed by Ghost (2010) and Relic (2011). His album Lucid (2014), released on Esoteric Recordings, received praise in All About Jazz. He co-founded the band The Fierce and the Dead in 2010, releasing four studio albums. He earned a 2014 Progressive Music Awards nomination for Breakthrough Artist, placed in the 2014 Prog readers' poll, and was listed in the 2019 100 Prog Icons. In 2016, he retired from solo performances following the release of the live album Archive. In 2018, he recorded guitar and co-wrote the song “She Now Owns a Heart of Stone” on Judy Dyble's album Earth Is Sleeping. In 2022, he joined Tim Bowness's live band.
