Rita Kolesnikova is a Russian singer, songwriter, and producer, who uses Russian and English languages to turn ideas into lyrics. Genre: adult alternative pop/rock.
From the age of 15, Rita began to act as a vocalist and songwriter in various underground groups of different genres: from alternative rock to experimental trip-hop.
In 2013, Rita started working on a solo project. Her first release was produced at home: EP “New Nails” is a four-song record: raw acoustic guitar, sophisticated vocals, and unusual pads together create a distinctive melancholic atmosphere. The mood of the songs can relate to Alice in chains, The Smashing Pumpkins acoustic albums, some of the Nine Inch Nails and Skinny Puppy songs.
After being noticed by some of the industry experts, Rita was encouraged to record a full-band album. At that time, two talented musicians joined her: drummer and sound-engineer Dmitry Mikhailyuk and guitar/bass player Mikhail Sokolov.
Female artists of the 90th like Tori Amos and Alanis Morissette had a significant impact on the formation of Rita’s aesthetic taste. Today her signature style is a combination of mild piano, acoustic and distorted guitars, creative vocal parts, and well-considered rhythm-section along with the stream-of-consciousness lyrics and beautiful melodies.
The topics that Rita speaks about in her music are self-knowledge, getting in touch with the subconscious part of self, exploring intricate and ambivalent feelings, and emotional relationships with others.
