The Broken West, an American power pop band, was formed in Los Angeles, California in 2004 and consisted of Ross Flournoy (guitar, vocals), Dan Iead (guitar, backing vocals), Brian Whelan (bass, backing vocals), Rob McCorkindale (drums, percussion), and Scott Claassen (keys, backing vocals). Initially known as The Brokedown, they changed their name in 2006 due to legal concerns. Their debut full-length release was I Can't Go On, I'll Go On in 2007, referencing a Samuel Beckett quote. The band's single "Down in the Valley" (2007) was featured in an episode of Grey's Anatomy. They played at the Austin City Limits Music Festival and toured extensively with acts like Fountains of Wayne and The National. Their second album, Now or Heaven, was released in 2008 through Merge Records. The band disbanded in 2009.
