Beowülf, an American crossover thrash metal band, was formed in Venice Beach, California, in 1981 by Michael Alvarado, Dale Henderson, Mike Jensen and Paul Yamada. Initially known as Black Sheep, they changed their name to Beowülf in 1983. Their debut album Beowülf was released in 1986 on Suicidal Records. The band's second album, Lost My Head... But I'm Back on the Right Track, followed in 1988. In 1995, original bassist Paul Yamada died of a drug overdose and the band disbanded shortly after. Beowülf reunited in 2000, releasing The Re-Releases in 2004 and Westminster & 5th in 2007. Their sixth studio album, Jesus Freak, was released in 2011. The band has had numerous lineup changes over the years, with Dale Henderson being the only constant member. Mike Jensen died from an apparent heroin overdose on February 13, 2020.
