Anthony Johnson, born Roy Anthony Johnson on December 25, 1957, in Kingston, Jamaica, is a Jamaican singer. Raised by his mother in Trench Town, Johnson was influenced by local musicians and the vibrant dance hall scene. His musical journey began with early recordings such as "Free Black Man" for producer Bunny Lee. He later formed the vocal trio Mystic I with Les Clarke and Balvin Finals, recording tracks for Linval Thompson and Lee "Scratch" Perry. In 1982, Johnson achieved significant success with his hit single "Gunshot", produced by Jah Thomas, which addressed social issues and became a sound system favorite. Throughout the 1980s, he collaborated with notable producers like Prince Jammy and Dillinger, releasing albums such as Togetherness (1996) and Dance Hall Victory (2010). Johnson has maintained an active career, performing extensively in Europe, particularly with the French band Positive Roots Band.
