Blue Meanies, a ska-core band, were formed in Carbondale, Illinois, at Southern Illinois University in 1989. The group emerged from the local college party circuit in the early 1990s and released their debut single "Grandma Shampoo" c/w "Dickory Dock" in 1991. Their first four albums—Peace Love Groove, Pave The World, Kiss Your Ass Goodbye, and Full Throttle—were released between 1992 and 1997, establishing their consistent ska-core sound. In 1998, Blue Meanies participated in the Ska Against Racism tour. They signed with MCA Records towards the end of the third wave of ska, releasing their sixth album The Post Wave in late 2000. The band ceased touring after the album's release but never issued an official break-up statement. In 2004, Blue Meanies reunited for a series of shows, as well as for performances at Riot Fest in 2006 and 2014.
