Viy, a Ukrainian folk rock band from Kyiv, was formed in 1991. The group gained early recognition by winning the Chervona Ruta festival in 1991 and 1993. Following their success at Chervona Ruta, Viy toured Europe in 1994, visiting France, Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. Known for their street performances, Viy established a musical production center in 1995 and began recording at their own studio from 2003 onward. The band is celebrated for its alternative rock ballads that blend elements of Ukrainian folk motifs, Neo-Baroque, and Neo-Gothic music with original lyrics and melodies. Their discography includes notable albums such as Wij (1993) and Чорна рілля (Chorna Rillia, 1994).
