Chakk were an industrial funk band from Sheffield formed in 1981 by Alan Cross, Mark Brydon, Dee Boyle, Sim Lister, Jake Harries, and Jon Stuart. Their first single “Out of the Flesh” (1984) was produced by Richard H. Kirk and released on the Doublevision label. It reached number 3 on the independent charts. Following the release of “You” (1985) which reached number 14 on the indie charts, the band signed with MCA Records to release the album 10 Days in an Elevator (1986). Chakk continued to issue singles such as “Big Hot Blues” (1986), “Time Bomb” (1986), and “Bloodsport” (1986) on the independent Fon Records imprint. The group recorded a John Peel session in October 1984. Fon Studios, built with advance funds from MCA, became a hub for the Sheffield electronic scene and influenced labels such as Warp. The group disbanded in 1987. Following the dissolution, Brydon formed Moloko and Cross wrote for Warner Chappell Music.
