Catamenia, a Finnish melodic death metal band from Oulu, was founded in 1995 by Riku Hopeakoski and Mika Tönning. The group released their first demo album, Demo '95, in the same year they were formed. In 1997, Catamenia signed with Massacre Records following the release of their second demo, Winds. Their debut full-length album, Halls of Frozen North, was recorded in Germany and released in 1998. The band continued to release albums including Morning Crimson (1999), Eternal Winter's Prophecy (2000), and Eskhata (2002). In 2003, Catamenia released Chaos Born. Catamenia changed their lineup on almost every album, with Hopeakoski serving as their main composer. After several difficult years, the band reactivated in 2025 and performed at the Vaasa Kaaos Festival.
