Dirty on Purpose was an American rock band from Brooklyn, New York. Formed in 2002, the group consisted of Doug Marvin, Joseph Jurewicz, George Wilson, DJ Boudreau and Erika Forster. The ensemble was known for a sound that featured alternating male and female vocals and layered guitar work. The band self-released its eponymous debut EP, Dirty on Purpose, in 2003. This was followed by the EP Sleep Late for a Better Tomorrow in 2004, which was re-released on North Street Records in 2005. In 2006, the group released its debut studio album, Hallelujah Sirens. The record was nominated for Best Indie Rock Album at the 2007 PLUG Independent Music Awards. During its career, the band performed at various festivals including SXSW, the CMJ Music Marathon and the Siren Music Festival. The group also performed as an opening act for ensembles such as Arcade Fire, the Decemberists and Band of Horses. In 2008, the band issued the EP Like Bees and a digital recording titled Dead Volcanoes. Dirty on Purpose disbanded in 2008 following a final performance at the Mercury Lounge in New York.
