Chicken Lips was formed in 1999 by Andy Meecham and Dean Meredith, former members of Bizarre Inc, the band they created in the early 1990s. Their music blended left‑field house with disco‑dub elements, diverging from the acid‑house style of their earlier work, and as producers they issued a stream of twelve-inch singles through the Kingsize label, including "Bad Skin", "He Not In", "You're Playing Dirty" and "Many Members". In 2000 the duo released the album Echoman, followed by Extended Play in 2002 and Body Music – Nite:Life 015 in 2003. The albums DJ-Kicks: Chicken Lips and Re-Echoed, Re-Extended and Re-Hashed also arrived in 2003. In 2005 the group released the album Clicks, Acid 'n' Disco, and the 2006 album Making Faces followed. The addition of Steve Kotey of Bear Funk Records expanded the group into a trio. The 2010 release Show Your Shape (The Best Of Chicken Lips) collected their best-known work, and the band also released D.R.O.M.P (Remixes) in 2012 through Southern Fried Records.
