Hemant Chauhan

Hemant Chauhan, born in Kundni village, Rajkot district, Gujarat, India, on 7 November 1955, is an Indian singer and writer associated with Gujarati devotional, folk, and garba music. Chauhan launched his musical career in 1978 with his debut album, Dasi Jivan na Bhajano, featuring the devotional songs of Gujarati saint-poet Dasi Jivan. His notable recordings included devotional and folk songs such as “Om Namah Shivay - Shiv Dhun”, “Bhajman Bam Bam Bholenath”, “Pankhida O Pankhida”, “Raakh Na Ramakada”, and “Unchi Medi Te Mara Sant Ni Re”. In recognition of his contributions to traditional Gujarati folk music, Chauhan received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2012 and was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2023.
