Samuel Elliot Roman, known as Romans, was born on September 15, 1986, in Pinner, Middlesex. He learned how to play piano and other instruments at Orley Farm Prep School and taught himself how to produce. At age 13, Romans performed his first gig at the Northwood Hills Hotel. In May 2014, he signed with Roc Nation and released his debut EP Overthinking - Part 1 in 2015. Additional EPs followed: Act I (2015), Silence (2016), and Automatic (2017). He also released several singles, including "The Agony And The Ecstasy" and "Prisoner". In 2018, he co-wrote "Someone You Loved" for Lewis Capaldi, which topped the UK Singles Chart and Billboard Hot 100. For this work, Romans won Song of the Year at the 2020 Brit Awards and was nominated for the same category at the 62nd Grammy Awards. He later launched his own label, Chosen People, via AWAL/Sony in 2022.
