The Club Foot Orchestra, a jazz ensemble, was founded in 1983 in San Francisco. The group originated from a house band at the Club Foot performance art nightclub, where musician Richard Marriott and Beth Custer formed the ensemble. Their early releases included Wild Beasts (1986) and Kidnapped (1987), both on Ralph Records. The orchestra gained recognition for their live accompaniment to silent films, starting with a score for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in 1987. This led to collaborations on notable films such as Nosferatu (1989) and Metropolis (1991). The group's performances have taken place at venues including the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Symphony Space, and San Francisco's Castro Theatre.
