The Tontons, an indie rock group from Houston, Texas, formed in 2007. The band consists of lead vocalist Asli Omar, bassist Tom Nguyen, guitarist Adam Martinez, and drummer Justin Martinez. Their initial breakthrough came with the release of their first EP Sea and Stars in 2008. In 2009, they released their self-titled debut album The Tontons. The band gained significant recognition when their debut album was named one of the "Favorite Local Albums of The Decade" by the Houston Chronicle in 2010 and one of the best local albums by both the Houston Chronicle and Houston Press in 2011. They received two Houston Press Music Awards, including "Best New Act" in 2008 and "Best Local Recording" in 2014. The Tontons have been featured in prominent publications such as SPIN, The New York Times, and MTV.
