Boxhead Ensemble, an American musical collective founded by composer Michael Krassner in Los Angeles, California, began in 1991 when Krassner was commissioned to record music for The Original Pantry Café, an independent student documentary, and featured a rotating lineup of local musicians who improvised the score. In 1997, Boxhead Ensemble released their debut album, Dutch Harbor: Where the Sea Breaks Its Back, which accompanied Braden King's documentary of the same name. The film and its soundtrack received acclaim, leading to European tours where the ensemble provided live musical accompaniment. Other notable releases include The Last Place To Go (1998), Two Brothers (2001), Quartets (2003), and Nocturnes (2006). In 2010, they composed the soundtrack for Braden King's feature-length dramatic film Here, performing at its premiere at the Museum of Modern Art.
