Dave Bixby was born in 1950 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and is an American singer-songwriter. After graduating from high school in 1968, he became involved in the counterculture movement. His breakthrough came with the release of his seminal album Ode to Quetzalcoatl in 1969, which documented his personal journey through depression, addiction, and spiritual awakening. The album gained a cult following and was reissued in 2009 by Guerssen Records. Following his spiritual transformation, he joined The Group, a Michigan-based Christian organization, where he collaborated on the album Second Coming under the name Harbinger. By 1974, he left the group and embarked on various musical endeavors. In the late 1980s, he lived aboard a sailboat named Free Spirit. After a shipwreck in 1990, he returned to Arizona, where he worked as a State Park Ranger along the Colorado River. He continued performing music, forming the duo The Coconuts with Gary Peaslee.
