What Made Milwaukee Famous is an American indie rock band from Austin, Texas, formed in 2002. The group gained early recognition by performing on the television program Austin City Limits alongside Franz Ferdinand in 2005. The band signed with Barsuk Records in 2006, which re-released their 2004 debut album, Trying to Never Catch Up. A second album, What Doesn't Kill Us, followed on March 4, 2008, and was preceded by The Sugarhill Sessions EP (2008). The band played major festivals, including South by Southwest, the Austin City Limits Festival, and Lollapalooza, and opened for acts such as the Smashing Pumpkins, Arcade Fire, the Black Keys, and Snow Patrol. The group was featured on bands-to-watch lists in Billboard and Rolling Stone magazines. After releasing a third album, You Can't Fall Off the Floor, on January 22, 2013, the band became largely inactive until announcing a series of reunion shows in September 2019.
