British electro act Faithless beat the odds in that notoriously fickle genre, putting together a career that has produced hit singles and albums for well over two decades. The foursome came together in 1995 when respected record producer Rollo teamed with Sister Bliss, a violin prodigy who became a renowned house DJ, and they brought in singers Jamie Catto and Maxi Jazz. Their first three singles - “Salva Mea”, “Insomnia”, and “Reverence” - all went Top 10 in the UK, and did well in countries throughout Europe as well as the United States. They all appeared on their 1996 debut album, Reverence. Rollo’s deft production skills, as well as the group’s diverse lyrical topics, allowed the band to constantly shift their sound, something that became clear with the many remixes that followed each official album. 1998’s Sunday 8PM spun off their second international success, “God Is a DJ”. After the departure of vocalist Jamie Catto, 2001’s Outrospective featured the UK and US Top 10 “We Come 1”. They topped the British album chart with 2004’s No Roots and capped their first decade with Forever Faithless, a greatest hits collection that topped the UK album chart in 2005. After another top 5 album, 2010’s The Dance, Rollo announced that the band was breaking up. However, Rollo, Sister Bliss, and Maxi Jazz reunited for remix album Faithless 2.0 in 2015 and toured to promote it’s release. Although Maxi left Faithless for good in 2016, Rollo and Sister Bliss returned in 2020 for the album All Blessed. Maxi Jazz died on December 23, 2022, at the age of 65.
