Best known for their genre-defining hit single "Wipe Out," surf rockers The Surfaris formed in Glendora, California, in 1962. Originally comprised of high school friends Ron Wilson (drums), Jim Fuller (lead guitar), Bob Berryhill (rhythm guitar), and Pat Connolly (bass), the group made its debut in 1963 with the single "Wipe Out," a group effort that reached Number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and entered the charts in Canada, Germany, and the UK. Even though follow-up singles such as "Point Panic" and "Surfer Joe" were well-received in the US, the band failed to replicate the success of "Wipe Out" and ended up disbanding following their 1966 Japanese tour. In the late 2000s, Bob Berryhill decided to revive the moniker and started touring with his wife and sons.
