Ginger Root is an American indie soul music project from Huntington Beach, California, led by singer-songwriter and instrumentalist Cameron Lew. Describing his sound as "aggressive elevator soul," he draws inspiration from artists like Vulfpeck, Toro y Moi, and Feist. Ginger Root's music is released under Acrophase Records, with Lew handling studio recordings solo and performing live with his friends Matt Carney and Dylan Hovis. Cameron Lew started Ginger Root while in the band Van Stock, writing songs that didn't fit the band's style. This led to the creation of his debut album Spotlight People in 2016. In 2017, he began the Toaster Music series on his video streaming channel, performing covers in his car, which later became compilation albums on Bandcamp. Inspired by a room in Lew's great-grandmother's house, Ginger Root's second album Mahjong Room was released in June 2018 and featured popular singles like "Two Step" and "Call It Home." This album was In 2020, he released the album Rikki, delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which included singles such as "Karaoke" and "Why Try." In 2021, Ginger Root announced the EP City Slicker, a conceptual project themed as the soundtrack for a fictitious 1980s Japanese film. Singles "Neighbor" and "Loretta" were part of this release. Following this, in 2022, he released the EP Nisemono, exploring themes of imposter syndrome. Cameron Lew and company returned in 2024 with the single "No Problems," the lead single from the project's fourth full-length album, SHIBANGUMI.
