David Parry

David Parry, born on March 23, 1949, is an English conductor known for his work in opera. He studied at Cambridge University and the Royal Academy of Music in London. His conducting career began under Audrey Langford, leading to his debut with La traviata. Parry served on the conducting staffs of Dortmund Opera, Opera North, and Glyndebourne before he became Music Director of English Touring Opera from 1983 to 1987. He is noted for his recordings with Chandos Records and Opera Rara, including works by Vincenzo Bellini and Gioachino Rossini. Parry founded the Almeida Opera Festival in 1992 and has been an Artistic Associate at the Norfolk and Norwich Festival and an Artistic Advisor to Opera Rara. In 2006, he conducted Anthony Minghella's production of Madama Butterfly, which won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Opera Production.
