John Frusciante is an American rock guitarist known best for his times with the band Red Hot Chili Peppers with whom he made five studio albums. He has collaborated with several other acts including Mars Volta and Speed Dealer Moms and pursued a solo career. He won Grammy Awards with Red Hot Chili Peppers and Mars Volta.
Born to a musical family in the New York borough of Queens, he learned to play the guitar as a teenager and joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1988. He left in 1992 and rejoined them later for two more stints. He pursued a solo career starting with 'Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-Shirt' in 1995. Several albums followed including 'Smile from the Streets You Hold' (1997) and 'To Record Only Water for Ten Days' (2001). 'The Will to Death' (2004) reached number 36 on Billboard's Independent Albums Chart, 'Shadows Collide With People' (2004) made the lower division of the Billboard 200 and 'The Empyrean Dream' (2009) peaked at number 15 on the Independent Chart also edging itself onto the 200. His 2012 EP 'Letur-Lefr' went to number 38 on the Independent Chart and in 2015 he released an eponymous album as Trickfinger. In 2016 he told Billboard magazine that he had turned to electronic music and hip-hop and would no longer perform live. His 2016 EP 'Foregrow' reached number 16 on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart. 'Trickfinger II' came out in 2017.
