Roberta Kelly, born November 23, 1942 is an American singer whose career spanned disco and urban contemporary gospel. Growing up in in Los Angeles, California, Roberta Kelly pursued vocal training and, in 1974, released the single "Kung Fu Is Back Again" while in Munich, which introduced her to European audiences. Her breakthrough came with the 1976 single "Trouble-Maker", which spent two weeks at Number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart and led to the release of the album Trouble Maker that same year. In 1977, Roberta Kelly issued the controversial album Zodiac Lady, featuring the club hit "Zodiacs", which reached number 24 on the U.S. dance chart and number 44 on the UK Singles Chart. The following year she released Gettin' the Spirit, a gospel‑influenced disco album that peaked at number 9 on the U.S. dance chart. Throughout the late 1970s, Roberta Kelly collaborated with Giorgio Moroder, Pete Bellotte, and Donna Summer, and performed as a backing vocalist for Thelma Houston. After a brief return to the market in 1980 with Roots Can Be Anywhere and This Is Roberta Kelly, she released Tell Me in 1981. Roberta Kelly’s later work included the 1995 album The Sound of Color and the 2008 single "America (The Sound of Colour Realized)", marking her continued presence in the music scene.
