The Argentinian rock band Callejeros started out life in 1995 as a covers band under the name Rio Verde, mostly playing standards by artists such as Chuck Berry and Creedence Clearwater Revival.
After a six-year gestation period the band emerged as Callejeros and released their debut album 'Sed' in 2001. It was followed up in 2003 by their second album 'Presión', at which point the band's career began to take off. Within six months the band were filling large venues and with a rapidly expanding fan base Callejeros were tipped to become a major Latin rock band.
Sadly in 2004 a fire broke out at one of their gigs creating a tragedy which eventually would define the band's short career and bring it all to an end. The fire was started by a firework let off by a member of the audience which ignited combustible acoustic panels in the roof of the venue. In the ensuing blaze 194 lost their lives and the band understandably put their career on hold.
In 2006, they re-emerged into the limelight with a new album, 'Señales', and tentatively began making a few live appearances. The ensuing publicity created a public outcry which eventually led to the band being tried in 2011 charged with causing the deaths of their fans in 2004. Each of the band members were subsequently found guilty and jailed for seven years.
