Biografia

A singer/songwriter firmly
entrenched in the rootsy sound of Americana, Langhorne Slim was born Sean
Scolnick in Langhorne, Pennsylvania on August 20, 1980. He taught himself
guitar as a teenager and began writing songs. After graduating from SUNY
Purchase’s Conservatory of Music. He honed his songwriting craft and his
performance chops playing at various eastern music clubs, and gained some
recognition when he became associated with The Trachtenburg Family Sideshow Players
in the early 2000s. Though Slim often performed solo, he put together an
ever-shifting band credited as either The War Eagles. His first LP, 2005’s When
the Sun’s Gone Down
, showcased his neo-folkie songwriting bent, as well as
his impassioned vocals and ramshackle sonic approach. A self-titled album
followed in 2008, and from that album the song “Worries” got major
exposure when it was used in an insurance commercial. For 2009’s Be Set Free
he attempted a less garage-rock and more polished sound. He disbanded War
Eagles in favor of a new backing band dubbed The Law. With them he recorded 2012’s
The Way We Move, a loose song cycle about the end of a relationship, became
the first Langhorne Slim album to crack the Billboard album charts. He returned
to a more organic sound for 2015’s The Spirit Moves, and he maintained
his relentless touring schedule to support it. In 2016 he co-wrote and recorded
the single “Sea of Love” with everybodyfields vocalist Jill Andrews. 2017’s
Lost at Last failed to connect with a wider audience. Addiction issues plagued
Langhorne Slim, but during the COVID-19 pandemic he composed a new set of songs
that resulted in the 2021 album Strawberry Mansion
