Multi-talented singer-songwriter, guitarist and television producer Bobby Goldsboro first tasted fame as a guitarist with The Candymen, best known as Roy Orbison's backing band during the early 1960s. After going solo in 1964 Goldsboro went on to write and record a string of hit songs. It was a run of success which generated 28 top 40 placings across the Billboard and Country Charts, with his most successful single Honey becoming the world's best-selling single of 1968. In 1973 the rite of passage classic Summer The First Time gave Goldsboro his penultimate UK and US hit followed up in 1974 by Hello Summertime, a collaboration with Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway. With artists such as Della Reese, Brenda Lee, Dolly Parton and John Denver recording his songs, Bobby Goldsboro's music has always attracted a broad audience; two of his songs, It's Too Late and Too Many People, became popular dance records on the UK Northern Soul scene. After his chart successes, Goldsboro concentrated on creating a successful TV music show as well as building up a music publishing company based in Nashville, and in the 1990s turned his attention to creating the US children's TV series The Swamp Critters Of Lost Lagoon for which he wrote the scripts, performed the voice-overs and played all the instruments in the accompanying musical score.
