Versailles

Versailles Philharmonic Quintet, also known simply as "Versailles" in Europe and Asia, is a Japanese symphonic metal band whose influences include classical metal and visual kei aesthetics. The group was formed in 2007 by vocalist/guitarist Hizaki, who expanded the lineup to include bassist Jamine You, drummer Yuki, and guitarist Teru. Based in Tokyo, Japan, Versailles Philharmonic Quintet released the debut EP Lyrical Sympathy in 2007, followed by the full-length album Noble one year later. Both records were released via Kamijo's own record label, Sherow Artist Society, with Noble reaching number 42 on the Oricon Albums chart. 2010's Jubilee peaked at number 16 and spawned several successful singles, including the chart-topping "Prince & Princess" (which reached number 1 on Japan's Indie Singles chart) and "Ascendead Master" (the band's first Top 10 hit on the Oricon Singles chart, where the song topped out at number 8). Released by Warner Music Japan, Jubilee also marked Versailles Philharmonic Quintet's first album for a major record label. The band remained on Warner's roster for 2011's Holy Grail, which peaked at number 12 on the strength of the Top 20 hits "Destiny -The Lovers-" and "Philia." A self-titled fourth album, Versailles, followed in 2012 and reached number 31. After a brief tour in support of its release, the band embarked upon a short hiatus before reconvening and releasing another EP, Lineage, in 2017. "Vogue," the band's first radio single in more than a decade, followed in 2023, cracking the Top 40 that summer.
