A pioneer of gospel music combined with reggae in the Caribbean, Sherwin Gardner was born on February 14, 1979 in Arima, on the island of Trinidad and Tobago. Born into a line of evangelicals, he continues to follow this path, combining it with reggae, gospel, dancehall and soca. A church singer since the age of five, he released his first album, Power in the Name, at the age of seventeen. Prepared for the stage by his gospel-singing uncle Kennedy Patterson, he performed at the Himalaya Club and continued to record. In 2002, "Leaning (Lion of Zion)" proved to be a hit, reaching beyond the local population. The Caribbean Music Award-winning artist went on to win the Marlin Prize nine times, and set up his own label, Flow Masters Records, under which his future productions were released, including the album Closer (2003) and his hit single "He Died for Me", which rocketed to the top of the Caribbean radio charts. In 2004, the COTT (Copyright Organization of Trinidad & Tobago) named him Gospel Songwriter of the Year. Sherwin Gardner followed this up with the albums Who I Am (2004), Elevation (2007), Borderless (2010), Relentless (2011) and Nascent (2013). In 2014, as the title suggests, Veinticinco marks the 25th anniversary of his musical career. It is followed by two live albums, Greater (2017) and its hit "Because of You", then Pointed Up (2021). Three years later, in 2024, the single "Find Me Here (Blessings Find Me)" was released ranked No. 20 in the U.S. gospel charts.
