Skyy, an American band based out of Brooklyn, New York, formed in 1977. The original lineup consisted of sisters Denise Bunning, Delores Bunning, and Bonny Dunning on vocals, alongside guitarist Solomon Roberts and Anibal Anthony Sierra, keyboardist Larry Greenberg, bassist Gerald Lebon, and drummer Tommy McConnell. Skyy initially signed with Salsoul Records in 1978 and released their debut album the following year.
Skyy's breakthrough came in late 1981 when they crossed over to the US pop charts with the release of the Skyy Line album, which featured the hit single "Call Me", reaching number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and achieving their first number one on the R&B charts. The album was later certified Gold by the RIAA. They continued recording for Salsoul until releasing Inner City in 1984. In the mid-1980s, Skyy signed with Capitol Records to release From the Left Side in 1986. Their comeback came in 1989 when they signed with Atlantic Records and released "Start of a Romance" and "Real Love", both of which topped the R&B charts. The latter also became their second crossover pop hit, peaking at number 47 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart early in 1990. Despite not having released a studio album since 1992's Nearer to You, they have continued to perform sporadically over the years.
