French multi-hyphenate Alexandre
Astier was born in Lyon on June 16, 1974. His education was steeped in the
performing arts and he made his first foray into televisual work with short
films that he both wrote and scored. One of those, 2002’s Dies Irae, he
turned into the hit comedy series Kaamelott. That program, which debuted
in 2005, would become Astier’s calling card. A comedy about the day-to-day life
of King Arthur and the various members of his court, the show was Astier’s project
through and through—he starred in, wrote, directed, and wrote the music for
hundreds of episodes over the next four years. That led to more work in the
film industry, including acting roles in the 2006 comedy Hey! Good Looking!
and the 2008 comic book adaptation Asterix at the Olypmic Games. He
directed the 2014 animated feature Asterix: The Mansion of the Gods, and
then turned his attention to a planned trilogy of films based on his greatest
success, Kaamelott. The first of those works, Kaamelott – Premier Volet,
was set for a 2020 release, but delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However,
the album’s soundtrack, full of songs written and performed by Astier, was
released that year.
