Biografia

An immensely popular singer, Giorgia
Todrani, known simply as Giorgia, was born April 26, 1971 in Rome. She began
performing in jazz clubs as a teenager and developed a vocal style steeped in
soul as well as an impressive multi-octave range. Her grand debut came at the
1994 Sanremo Music Festival where she performed the song “E Poi”, which
would go on to be her debut single and hit Number 2 in Italy. Her self-titled
1994 debut LP also hit Number 2 on the album chart. Having established herself
with vocal chops comparable to some of the most beloved singers of all time,
such as Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin, 1995’s Come Thelma & Louise
cemented her status as an iconic pop star going triple platinum and spawning
three top 40 singles including her first Number 1, “Come Saprei”. Her
third album, Mangio Troppa Cioccolata, would be her first chart topper
and she would close out the century with Girasole, which contained her
second Number 1 song, “Il Cielo in Una Stanza”. Her next seven albums
all placed in the top 3 with 2003’s Ladra di Vento, 2011’s Dietro le Apparenze, and 2013’s Senza Paura all topping the charts. Over that
time she rung up another fifteen top 10 singles including her biggest selling
single, 2003’s Number 1 smash “Gocce di Memoria”. As a stalwart of the
Italian recording industry, Giorgia covered Loredana Berté’s “Non Sono Una Signora”,
for a program celebrating Italian radio in 2020.
