Foxy Brown is an American rap artist with a long string of hit albums and singles to her credit and a lively personality that has won her roles in movies and caused ructions with other hip-hop artists with whom she has had public feuds. Her 1996 her debut album 'Ill Na Na' went to number two on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart and peaked at number seven on the Billboard 200. The following year she teamed with NAS Escobar, AZ And Nature in the hip-hop group The Firm with 'The Firm - The Album', which topped both charts.
The Brooklyn-born rapper won a local talent contest in her teens and she worked with established artists on their recordings until her solo debut in her late teens. In 1996, she featured on the Case single 'Touch Me Tease Me' and Jay Z's 'Ain't No Nigga', which appeared on the soundtrack of the Jerry Lewis comedy film 'The Nutty Professor'. The former went to number four on the Hip-Hop Songs Chart and number 14 on the Hot 100 while the latter, backed by Dead Presidents, reached number four on the Hip-Hop Chart and number 17 on the Hip-Hop Songs Chart. The Foxy Brown and Jay Z single 'I'll Be' from her 'Ill Na Na' album reached number five on the Rap Singles Chart and number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1997.
Noted for her forthright lyrics, dynamic presentation and provocative appearance, her 1999 album 'Chyna Doll' topped the Billboard 200 while 'Broken Silence' went to number five in 2001. She pursued active feuds with other rap artists including her youthful friend Lil' Kim and had frequent brushes with the law. In 2007, she was given a 12-month prison sentence for violating parole following an altercation with two manicurists in New York. In 2008, her album 'Brooklyn's Don Diva' went to number two on the Rap Albums Chart. In 2017, she announced that she had given birth to a daughter.
