D4L, an acronym for Down For Life, is an American hip hop group formed in 2003, comprising Atlanta-based rappers Fabo, Mook-B, Stoney, and Shawty Lo. The group is best known for their breakthrough single "Laffy Taffy", which peaked at Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2006. The song was produced by Cory Way (Born Immaculate), Broderick Thompson Smith and Richard Sims (K-Rab) and helped popularize the snap music trend. D4L's debut album Down For Life was released in November 2005 through Dee Money Entertainment and Asylum Records. The group gained popularity on tour, performing alongside up-and-coming artists such as Midwest Connect. The success of "Laffy Taffy" brought both acclaim and criticism for the group. D4L's debut album was certified Gold by the RIAA. Following their initial success, Shawty Lo (Carlos Walker) pursued a solo career in 2008 with his debut release Units in the City. Carlos passed away in 2016. In 2011, D4L signed a joint venture deal with 50 Cent’s G-Unit Records.
