Biografia
Art Garfunkel's soaring voice made an indelible mark on pop history as a foil for the intuitive songs of Paul Simon, which reached its apotheosis with the international Number 1 hit Bridge Over Troubled Water in 1970. From a family of Romanian immigrants, he met Simon in the sixth grade of school in Queens and in 1956 they started performing under the name of Tom & Jerry in the style of the Everly Brothers, releasing their first single Hey Schoolgirl in 1957. It was a minor hit and it was another six years before the duo evolved into the all-conquering Simon & Garfunkel. After they split following the success of Bridge Over Troubled Water, Garfunkel moved into movies, while releasing his first solo album Angel Clare in 1973, including the single All I Know. Other albums Breakaway (1975) and Watermark (1978) followed but it was Fate For Breakfast (1979) which brought him his biggest success, including the UK Number 1 single Bright Eyes, from the movie Watership Down. He subsequently recorded sporadically while pursuing other interests (including walks across Japan and America) and occasional reunions with Paul Simon. Yet Garfunkel's golden voice still proved popular on the albums Everything Waits To Be Noticed (2002) and Some Enchanted Evening (2007).
