Born in Los Angeles, California on October 14, 1965, Karyn White is a soul / R&B vocalist best known for a series of hit singles in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Spending her early years singing with a church choir, she then began a career as a backing vocalist for other recording artists. Her first break came in 1986 when she provided lead vocals for the song “Facts of Love” by jazz keyboardist Jeff Lorber. After several other recording sessions, she signed with Warner Bros. Records and released her self-titled debut album in 1988. The album featured three number 1 R&B singles – “The Way You Love Me,” “Superwoman,” and “Love Saw It” (featuring Babyface) - as well as the singles “Secret Rendezvous” and “Slow Down.” The album itself hit number 1 on the R&B Albums chart as well as entering the Top 20 in Canada, the UK, and on the Billboard 200. Karyn White’s sophomore album, Ritual of Love, was released in 1991 and included the hit “Romantic,” which reached number 1 on the R&B Singles and Hot 100 Singles charts. The album also contained the singles “Walkin’ the Dog,” and “Do unto Me” as well as the international hit “The Way I Feel About You.” Her third album, Make Him Do Right, was issued in 1994 but was not as successful as her first two albums. Karyn White left Warner Bros. in 1999 to raise a family and didn’t enter the music scene again until 2006 when she prepared the release of her fourth album, Sista Sista. However, the album was shelved and only two songs from the sessions were released in 2007 on the compilation album Superwoman: The Best of Karyn White. Five years later, she released the album Carpe Diem (2012).
