Mariah the Scientist is the stage name of American R&B artist Mariah Amani Buckles, born on October 27, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia. Even though she developed an interest in music after joining her elementary school choir, it wasn't until her college years that she began writing her own material. Her independently-released debut EP To Die For (2018) caught the attention of Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, who took her on tour with him and served as a mentor during the first years of her career. In 2019, she was signed to both Tory Lanez's One Umbrella Records and RCA Records and made her major-label debut with the album Master, which spawned the popular singles "Beetlejuice" and "Reminders." Preceded by the singles "RIP," "Always n Forever," and "2 You," her sophomore effort Ry Ry World appeared in 2021 and featured cameos by Young Thug and Lil Baby. "Spread Thin," her first charting effort, saw the light in 2022 and peaked at Number 18 on the Hot R&B Songs chart. It was included in the EP Buckles Laboratories Presents: The Intermission, her last release for One Umbrella and RCA.
