Crowbar, formed in 1990 in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a sludge metal band known for their heavy and intense sound. The band's lineup has included several notable musicians over the years, but vocalist and guitarist Kirk Windstein remains the sole constant member.
The band initially released demos such as Aftershock (1989) and The Slugs (1990). Their debut album, Obedience thru Suffering, was released in 1991. The band's breakthrough came with their second full-length album, Crowbar, in 1993, which included the hit songs "All I Had (I Gave)" and "Existence Is Punishment." Crowbar continued to release albums throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Notable releases include Time Heals Nothing (1995), Broken Glass (1996), Odd Fellows Rest (1998), Equilibrium (2000), and Sonic Excess in Its Purest Form (2001). The band has toured extensively, sharing the stage with acts like Pantera and Soilent Green. Windstein is also known for his work as a founding member of Down.
