Straddling catchy US-inspired alt-rock and invigorating, traditional-tipped J-rock, Snowkel accrued a steady fanbase across five albums and numerous singles. Formed in 2004 in Fukuoka, Japan by Shinya Nishimura (vocals/guitar), Masami Kabamura (bass), and Masato Yamada (drums), the band cut their teeth on the local scene in Fukuoka before releasing two independent records: Snowkel (December 2004) and Sora Colourful (June 2005). They scored a major label deal with Sony Music Japan in 2006 and released their first studio album, SNOWKEL SNORKEL, in April that year, which featured the singles "Tabibito Beginner," "Namikaze Satellite," and "Ooki Na Mizutamari." The band released their second album EQ in October 2007, containing the singles "Solar Wind" – featured in the Kiba anime series – "Bye-Bye×Hello," "Tenkiyohō" and "Kiseki," which was the theme for the Gintama anime series. Following a tour in 2008, Snowkel collected some of their best moments on 2009's Best+ release before announcing a hiatus. They parted ways following a farewell tour in 2010 but reunited in 2014 and released their third album, EYE, in 2015.
