KELUN

KELUN was formed in Japan in 2005 under the original name UTARI by vocalist and guitarist Ryousuke Kojima, born 5 December 1979 in Chiba Prefecture, with drummer Masahiro Kajitani, born 20 January 1982 in Tottori Prefecture, and bassist Yukito, born 15 February 1980 in Chiba Prefecture; the group later added bassist Yukito after Satou Shuusaku left in May 2008. Their first indie release, the mini-album UTARI, appeared in November 2006 and achieved success on the indie charts, prompting the February Tou" in February 2007. In September 2007 the band officially adopted the name KELUN and signed with Sony Music Entertainment Japan, releasing the EP Astral Lamp on 21 November 2007; the track "Signal" was selected as the seventh ending theme for the anime Gintama. The single "Sixteen Girl" followed on 20 February 2008 and was chosen by JapanCountdown as its opening theme. KELUN's second major single, "Chu-Bura", was issued on 2 July 2008 and served as the eighth opening theme for the anime Bleach, significantly expanding their national profile. The self-titled album KELUN was released on 3 September 2008, featuring the track "Boys Don't Cry" which became the opening theme for the PSP game Bleach: Soul Carnival. KELUN went on hiatus in October 2009, concluding a brief but impactful presence in the Japanese rock scene.
